General Information


VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired provides rehabilitation services free of charge for people of all ages who are legally blind or severely visually impaired. Service areas include children and youth, adults, seniors, employment and job placement, recreation, volunteer services, and community outreach and training.

VISIONS provides outreach, information and services in low income, ethnic minority communities and in buildings with concentrations of frail, low income elders throughout New York City.

Geographic Area Served: Primarily New York City and Tri-state metropolitan area.

Services Offered


Computer Training/Assistive Technology


Offers training in the use of adapted equipment.

Fee: Funding from the Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped for legally blind children. Funding from private grants for children with low vision or multiple disabilities.

Daily Living Skills/Independent Living Skills Training


Provides instruction at home in age-appropriate daily living skills by certified vision rehabilitation therapists.

Fee: No fee.

Employment/Job Training


Afterschool and summer job training with job coaches at VISIONS at Selis Manor. Employment for blind youth 18 and over at VISIONS VCB, a residential program located in Rockland Couunty, NY. Summer job placements at various businesses and nonprofits throughout New York City.

Fee: No fee.

Low Vision Services


Offers vision rehabilitation services for children at home.

Summer/Day Camps and After-school Programs


Offers after-school and summer programs for high school youths. Family Services at VISIONS VCB during selected weekends from October through June and during three weeks in the summer. Blind and visually impaired children of all ages including those with multiple disabilities, their siblings and parents/guardians could attend one-week in the summer and/or weekend sessions during the months from October through June.

Support Groups



Travel/Orientation and Mobility


Offers O&M training for children in their homes and neighborhoods.

Fee: Funding from the Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped for legally blind children. Funding from private grants for children with low vision or multiple disabilities.
