Recreation Services Offers introduction to the sport of Judo. The US Paralympic Judo Team is the only Olympic / Paralympic Judo Team that has ever won Gold for America. Our blind and visually impaired athletes brought home the Gold after the 2000 Games in Sydney, Australia. It has not been surpassed by the U.S. sighted Olympic Judo Team since Judo was introduced in 1964 at the Olympic level.
Eligibility: All potential students must have an interest in learning a new sport (Judo) and be willing to minimally, after a few introductory classes, commit to making an effort. This is a sport that is not learned over the weekend. Therefore, a good attitude will set the scene for creating a level playing field in life.
Fee: This is determined by each Judo gym (called a Dojo). Many times The Blind Judo Foundation will incur the costs of ongoing training for those that aspire to do more and are dedicated to learning this sport.
The co-founder of The Foundation is a world renowned Olympic & Paralympic Judo Coach and has created over 1200 national and international champions. Seventy-five percent of the medals won at the Olympic and Paralympic Judo events has been won under his coaching leadership.
