About Hadley School for the Blind


The Hadley School for the Blind is the largest worldwide distance educator of blind and visually impaired people, their families and blindness service professionals. Founded in 1920 by William Hadley and Dr. E.V.L. Brown, Hadley offers classes free of charge to its blind and visually impaired students and their families and affordable tuition classes to blindness professionals. It offers more than 90 tuition-free distance education courses to blind or visually impaired individuals, their families and professionals working in the blindness field. The four study areas include Adult Continuing Education, High School, Family Education, and Professional Education. Today, the school serves more than 10,000 students annually in all 50 states and 100 countries.

Hadley relies on contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations to fund its programs. The Hadley School is accredited by Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council since 1958 and the North Central Association on Accreditation and School Improvement since 1978.

Services


Braille and Reading Instruction
The Hadley School offers a number of courses that teach braille reading and writing to blind individuals, family members, and blindness professionals. As with all of Hadley's courses, these are offered through distance education.


Fee: Tuition-free to blind individuals and family members.

Distance Learning
Hadley is a worldwide distance educator of blind and visually impaired people, their families and blindness service professionals. Hadley offers classes free of charge to its blind and visually impaired students and their families and affordable tuition classes to blindness professionals. Also offers an accredited high school program to U.S.-based students.


Early Intervention/Infant Services
Offers courses of interest to parents of blind children and family members of blind adults. See course list under Family Education Programs.
Fee: Free.


Support for Parents
The Family Education Program (FE) offers courses of interest to parents of blind children and family members of blind adults. Topics include child development, independent living and braille instruction.


Fee: Free.

Travel/Orientation and Mobility
