Brief Description

The mission of DCMP is to promote and provide equal access to communication and learning through described and captioned educational media. The ultimate goal of the DCMP is for accessible media to be an integral tool in the teaching and learning process for all stakeholders in the educational community, including students, educators and other school personnel, parents, service providers, businesses, and agencies.

The Described and Captioned Media Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered by the National Association of the Deaf.

Hours of operation: Website open 24/7 for browsing and ordering videos. Office open Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM EST.

  • Information and Referral
    • The DCMP serves as a clearinghouse of information about description and captioning intended for consumers, agencies, corporations, and schools. Offerings include numerous print and online informational resources as well as a gateway to accessibility information from DCMP and its many collaborators.

      The DCMP—in partnership with AFB—also developed the first-ever description guidelines for educational media. These guidelines—the Description Key for Educational Media—are freely available at
