Services Offered

Services for Children

  • Assessment
    • Growing up, INSITE, Barraga Assessment of Visual Development tests. Provides adaptive equipment, audiological testing and functional vision evaluations.
  • Community Outreach Programs
    • The Blind Outreach program offers an alternative to a campus-based program for students who are visually impaired or blind (ages three to 22). Services are provided at their local school by a teacher of the visually impaired (TVI).
  • Early Intervention/Infant Services
    • Offers parent/infant program.
  • Education Services
    • Provides self-contained classrooms located in Ogden (Blind North Region), Salt Lake City (Blind Central Region), and Orem (Blind South Region) for visually impaired and blind students. Each educational environment promotes independence, skill development and challenges each student to achieve his/her potential. Students are referred for potential placement at USB by local school districts through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process.

      Provides instruction in developmental areas, home-based program for visually impaired infants, 0-2 years, with or without other impairments (includes deaf-blind), home teaching, preschool classes, consultant services to other programs for visually handicapped or multihandicapped. Offers full program of general academic studies.
  • Library Services
    • Provides braille and large-print materials when other sources are not available.
  • Preschool Programs
    • Preschool classes offered to visually impaired children between ages 3 and 5, with transportation provided.
