Debra Sewell's Advice on Self-Determination Skills

Debra Sewell Debra Sewell is currently the Curriculum Coordinator at Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI). With 20 years of experience in the field of visual impairment, Debra has taught early childhood, elementary and middle school age blind and visually impaired students. Her teaching experience has included instruction in core curricular areas as well as Expanded Core Curriculum. She also served as an outreach consultant for TSBVI, collaborating with, and conducting trainings for teachers of the visually impaired, orientation and mobility instructors, general education teachers, special education teachers, and parents.

Debra's current duties include the development of curricular materials for teaching students with blindness and visual impairment; coordination of the development and revision of evaluation tools for students at TSBVI in the core and expanded core curricular areas; and conducting staff trainings, both on and off campus.

Debra has been an active member of Texas Association of the Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (TAER) serving on the board of that organization for a number of years.
