Hi Jennifer,
What an interesting question - have never heard that issue raised before. I will check with some of my sources and see what I can find. Perhaps some other readers will know more about this than I.

Hi Jennifer,
Spoke to some administrators about the Braille Music Instruction question you raised. Their opinions:
If the other children are being given print music reading lessons than your son is entitled to be provided with Braille music reading instruction.
If it is included in the IEP district must provide/pay for. If
IEP team does not put it into IEP, you can go to fair hearing.
Hope this is helpful.

I can't get Anthony's school to do Braille. When we lived in Montana he had Braille for 4 years. We have been here for almost 2 years with no Braille. It seems like such a tough battle. I will continue to seek help to get this for my son. Any thoughts on NFB or NAPVI? Thanks MJ

Hi,
How old is Anthony? What is his diagnosis? What is the school's reason for not offering him instruction in Braille?

Jennifer:
Having a student learn to read music is part of many state curriculums. If your state has such a curriculum requirement, then your son's school should be required to provide braille music instruction. Often schools do not provide such instruction because of the cost, lack of proper instructors or resources. In recent years, various resources have been developed and offered in teaching students of all levels in braille music. The Hadley School offers a correspondence class in braille music.
