Potty Training Ideas

I have a 6 yr old boy who I am having trouble potty training. He is completely blind and has severe hearing loss. We take him regularly throughout the day at school and at home. He has a sign for potty and is rewarded with a cheer and a song when he makes pee or poo in the potty. I want to make the next step where he initiates the "want" to go to the potty and is not simply prompted. Where he can communicate with those around him that he wants to use the potty to avoid an accident. Any suggestions?

    If he is being taken to the toilet at regular intervals, he may not be experiencing the "need" to go. What if you started increasing the intervals between taking him to the toilet at home so he can feel the need.
