CVI and low acuity and right hemiplegia adn technology - anyone else?

Hi
My daughter is nearly 11 and has CVi and 3/60 vision and also mild right hemiplegia.  We have not come across anyone else in New Zealand where we live and are having difficulties know where to go educationally - re learning to read, technology available etc.  She is writing but has a lot of trouble re reading her illegible writing and  spelling.  She has to hold books up to her nose to read them.  She does use a CCTV a school but not that much.  She cannot type as too hard to see the screen and keys at same time and can't really use right hand apart from thumb and forefinger.
We are looking a getting a touch screen computer for home but they are seem to only just hitting the market and we are going to wait and see if Apple put one out.  In the meantime we may buy her an i touch as she seems to be able to use that a little.  (just to keep her entertained while out as she cannot watch any sport etc)

Anyone else out there in similar situation?

    Further to my earlier post, I am really keen to hear what technology others are using especially after an IEP review meeting today. She is trying so hard and it is so laborious for her to read a paragraph or write a short story. We are going to work on her touch typing with her left hand but will need to look a speech technology etc.

    Hi trs,

    The technology needed depends on the child, but we've found that screen readers, espeically the new free ones, work really well. They do require the child to be able to coordinate the use of a mouse, though, and see the screen. The Victor Reader is a great option for children, espeically those who have use of only one hand. The menu talks and the buttons are large and easy to feel. The Victor Reader can play back recorded books, be used as an iPod and serves as a tape recorder. Both dh and our daughter have one and they love it.

    Im also in new zealand and have a right hemiplegia(label is cerebral palsy) and visual processing disorder.computer wise i am yet to a non perkins keyboard that works(im 18). I use a unimanuel brailler brought from https://secure2.convio.net/psb/site/Ecommerce/1727865786?VIEW_PRODUCT=true&product_id=1224&store_id=1101 and arrived 2 weeks ago

    and i am going to be getting a braille lite that i use in one handed mode
