Hi there - new member here!  After 9 years of dealing w/CVI on our own - I finally have found a forum of parents that can help me understand our son!  whoo hoo!
We have a 9 year old son Jacob who was diagnosed w/CVI from birth.
Reading some of these stories actually brings so much relief to know we are not alone.  We have a very supportive school and great programs. We have an awesome VI as well as O&M.  Still you feel you are not doing as much as you can for your child.  We have Jacobs IEP tomorrow and this is the first one I'm a bit nervous for. He is in 4th grade and I think finally the teachers are finally realizing that Jacob may need more help then we originally thought.
Reading stories of other children having difficult picking out items in a group or recognizing faces is all so familiar.  Jacob is so, so smart and has been doing extremely well in school up until now. The comprehension part of reading is more difficult.  So many other factors are coming into play. Things that are so hard to explain to someone that does not live w/that person. There is just something missing from Jacob that no one can pin point.  I read about social problems some of these other kids are having  - that is so Jacob!  Only a few close friends over the past 4 years in school - breaks my heart.   There is so much to write, but for now I will just say hi and so glad to be a part of this forum.  Just reading some stories is therapy enough.  I hope to hear from some of you!  I am here in Naperville, IL if anyone else out there is nearby!
