Sleeping through the night...

  How old is your child? I have a four year old who 99.9% of the time sleeps through the night. We did a couple of things when he was littler to help with that. Starting as an infant, he had access to things that were self soothing. This included a music crib toy that he was able to easily activate using a foot or hand and binkies. As he got older into a big bed, I took the music crib toy and put it with him in there to help the transition. Then he also got to pick out one toy, usually book or vetch toy, to bring to bed ith him. I also kept him on a fairly strict napping schedule. I did not allow him to sleep past certain time in a.m. And for afternoon nap. If he did get up in the night, we would check on him but did not take him out of his room or give him any special attention like playing with him. We had and still have a gate on his door as well as bell alarms on all the doors leading to the outside. I know his doctor has recommended melatonin to us to help regulate his cycle but we have not needed it thus far. Good luck!

  My son has LCA and did not sleep at all from about the age of 10 months to 2 years!!! It was awful. I think we tried everything. Eventually we bit the bullet and tried the dreaded ferberization (aka - let him cry himself to sleep) and it worked. I can't tell you that it was easy... but it worked!
  
  Ivan is 6 years old now and actually sleeps all night every night (and has been doing so since he was about 2 and a half). Lately he's even started sleeping in on weekends! Yipee!
