FamilyFriends

Parents of children with visual impairments have consistently told us that they need a way to reach out to each other, and share resources on raising their children from birth to adulthood. Opting into FamilyFriends allows other registered FamilyConnect members to visit your basic profile and send you friend requests or private messages.

Basic Profile

The basic profile consists of:

• "About Me" statement—a short description of you and your family, of up to 250 words.
• Your profile picture
• Your child's condition(s)
• Your child's age—calculated based on your child's birthday, but the actual birthdate will not be displayed.
• Your state or province

Your friend recommendations will be based on where you live, as well as your child's age and eye conditions.

Advanced Profile

You can give new friends access to your basic profile, or you can choose to give them access to your advanced profile. The advanced profile has more ways to share information and resources:

• Status updates and comments
• Links you like
• Message boards you're tracking
• Photo albums (coming soon)

Privacy

Participation in FamilyFriends is totally voluntary, and it is your choice how much information you provide. You can opt out again at any time. If you opt out, your user name will no longer link to your basic profile, so your profile will be visible only to your confirmed friends. Opting out also means that you will no longer show up as a "Recommended Friend" to other members. If you are already a registered FamilyConnect member and wish to opt in, simply visit your Edit Your Profile page (you will be prompted to log in first) and say yes to the question "Include me in FamilyFriends?"
