VCB Residential Vision Rehabilitation and Prevocational Programs
DATES:
Summer Session 1:
Saturday, June 26 – Friday, July 2, 2010
( Blind children w/ families (babies, toddlers, and multidisabled )
Summer Session 4:
Friday, July 30 – Monday, August 2
( Youth weekend for youth ages 10 - 14 with parents only )
Summer Session 6:
Saturday, August 14 – Friday, August 20, 2010
( Blind children w/ families )
WHERE:
VISIONS VCB, a residential rehabilitation and training center, is located on 35 tranquil acres in Rockland County, New York. Roundtrip transportation will be provided from VISIONS at Selis Manor, 135 W 23rd Street in Manhattan.
WHO:
Legally blind or visually impaired children through age 21 with their families, including parents/guardians and young siblings.
WHAT:
• Individual and group training for legally blind children in adaptive techniques of daily living, personal grooming and hygiene, communications, including Braille, orientation and mobility, etc.
• Adaptive programming includes blind and sighted children
• Support and resources for parents/legal guardians
Program includes: vision rehabilitation therapy, orientation & mobility, occupational
therapy, sports, swimming, dance, crafts, music, adapted computers, etc.
Cost:
The cost for eligible blind children is sponsored by either the NYS Commission for
the Blind and Visually Handicapped (CBVH) or BESB Board of Education and Services for the Blind in the state of Connecticut. Eligible children must be referred by their state counselor.
